Cake Decorating
The LinkNow Olympics is one of a kind. We combine sports traditionally found in the fringes of society, such as beer-chugging and Oreo cookie-eating, and propel them to levels usually reserved for the most elite of athletic endeavours.
But best of all, we’re known for hosting the world's most talented cake decorators, who go on to publish best-selling cake decorating books and host primetime television baking shows.
A Storied History
Rumor has it cake decorating dates back to the early 1900s when sugar cane was first discovered. With only one lick of this sweet treasure, everyone was obsessing over what sweet tooth-satisfying recipe they could create using this miraculous substance.
Rummaging through their scarce resources, they found the perfect match: flour and eggs. They quickly learned that warming their mixed ingredients in a fire-heated pot would give birth to a sweet, moist, and soft substance that became known as cake.
But what a plain, pancake-resembling ensemble this was. Using their quick-witted creativity, they mounted thinly sliced strawberries and freshly picked blueberries on top, decorating it with a finished look through a process we now refer to as cake decorating.
Olympic-Grade Cake Decorating: Only Suited for the Martha Stewarts of the World
For bakers looking to be crowned the cream of the crop, we must caution that a hobby is not mastery. That’s why only proven masters will come out on top of this year’s cake-decorating event.
We want participants who put their dough where their mouth is—simply put, we want bakers, not fakers. If you hope to be among the chosen best, we hope you’re as good at following directions as adhering to a recipe!
Here are the rules for the cake-decorating event:
- Each team must elect one representative.
- The representative will compile a self-purchased ingredient list.
- They will then create a video showing off their creation.
- The timelapse or complete video MUST include the following:
- The entire ingredient list
- The ingredients in use throughout the video
- The full baking process
- The full decorating process
- The finished decorated cake with their face included
- Basically prove to us this was you that made this and not a video stolen from the internet!
- The representative will play the video for the judges at their designated time during the event.
An Olympics Without Cake Decorating is an Olympics No More
What are the LNM Olympics without the annual tradition of a cutthroat, sugar-craving, cake-decorating competition? That's what we call an Olympics too flavourless for our liking.
To all participating cake decorators, we wish you nothing but sweet success.
